Personal Musings

One of the things I would like to bring to this blog is a personal element – opinions about memorising, and exploring the music I’m currently learning, performing or trying to keep in my repertoire from a memorisation perspective. I already know that I really struggle to memorise certain types of music, while others seem like child’s play; some pieces seem to disappear from my memory within days of a big performance, while others stick for years. What’s the difference? Is it the way I learn them, or is there something inherently different about the compositional style? I’m also interested in the role of musical memory in the process of composing music, so I’ll try to blog about that too as and when I write new pieces.
